Support for Trauma, Intrusive Memories, and Feeling Stuck in Survival Mode

If you feel constantly on edge, easily triggered, emotionally overwhelmed, or stuck thinking about past experiences, trauma therapy can help.

Post-traumatic stress (PTSD) can impact how you feel, think, and respond to everyday situations — even long after the event has passed. Many people with trauma feel frustrated that they logically know they are safe, but their body still reacts as if danger is present.

At Just Bee Psychotherapy, I work with adults and college students in Minnesota who want relief from trauma symptoms, intrusive memories, anxiety, and nervous system overwhelm. Therapy can help your mind and body feel safer so you can move forward feeling more grounded and present.

Common PTSD and Trauma Symptoms

Trauma affects each person differently. Symptoms may include:

• intrusive memories or flashbacks
• feeling emotionally overwhelmed
• feeling on edge or hypervigilant
• anxiety or panic symptoms
• difficulty sleeping or nightmares
• feeling numb or disconnected
• strong emotional reactions to reminders of the past
• avoidance of certain places, people, or situations
• feeling stuck in past experiences
• difficulty trusting others
• feeling unsafe even when things are objectively okay

Some people experience one major traumatic event, while others have experienced ongoing stress or repeated difficult experiences over time.

Both can impact the nervous system in similar ways.

How Trauma Therapy Can Help

Trauma therapy helps your brain and nervous system process past experiences so they no longer feel as overwhelming in the present.

Together, we may work on:

  • understanding trauma responses

  • reducing triggers and emotional overwhelm

  • calming the nervous system

  • processing distressing memories safely

  • decreasing avoidance patterns

  • building a stronger sense of safety and stability

  • improving boundaries and self-trust

  • helping your body feel less stuck in survival mode

My approach is supportive, collaborative, and grounded in psychoeducation so you understand why trauma symptoms occur and how healing happens.

Treatment may include trauma-informed therapy, CBT, nervous system regulation strategies, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy® (ART®) when appropriate.

Trauma Can Affect Both Mind and Body

Trauma is not just something you think about — it is something your nervous system experiences.

You may notice:

  • your body feeling tense or braced

  • strong emotional reactions that feel hard to control

  • difficulty relaxing even when you want to

  • feeling easily overwhelmed

  • feeling disconnected from yourself or others

These responses are not signs of weakness. They are often signs that your nervous system learned to stay alert in order to protect you.

Therapy helps your brain and body learn that the threat has passed.

I work with clients experiencing:

  • PTSD

  • childhood trauma

  • relationship trauma

  • chronic stress exposure

  • complex trauma

  • difficulty feeling safe or grounded

Sessions are paced based on your comfort level and focus on helping you feel more stable, supported, and empowered.

You do not have to share every detail of your experience in order to make progress.
